Promoting children's education is a key axis for Social Development and one of the pillars within TAQA Morocco’s ESG strategy.
TAQA Morocco supports a program launched by the NGO Insaf, which consists in preventing families and all institutional actors (teachers, local associations, local authorities...) from dropping underage girls from school in rural and remote areas. The association is notably at the origin of the law prohibiting the work of minors (16 years) as domestic workers (Law 19-12, art 24 - 2017).
Insaf started its action in 3 provinces near Marrakech: Chichaoua, El Kelaâ des Sraghna and Al Haouz, as a follow-up to a study indicating that the majority of underage girls doing domestic work were from these regions. The project consists of paying a monthly fee to parents encouraging them to send their daughters back to school, pay for school supplies, tuition fees and, if necessary, accommodation and tutoring. Within 10 years, 550 girls have returned to school.
TAQA Morocco joined this initiative by sponsoring 10 young girls so that they can acquire the necessary education and embark in the journey of building their future.
