Number of work accidents per fiscal year

In 2018 the Management of TAQA Morocco, in partnership with the Health and Safety Committee, launched a major consultation on perceptions of the company’s safety culture among our collaborators and subcontractors. This qualitative study enabled us to precisely identify improvement areas, to guide communication initiatives, and to develop guidelines for positioning ourselves with respect to a global best-practices benchmark.

TAQA Morocco’s collaborators made a strong contribution to this study, which gave rise to concrete, formalized recommendations in a three-year roadmap, with the goal of achieving the “Interdependent” level of the Bradley curve.

Each of the axes of this roadmap gave rise to actions plans that are led by a specific Leadership Committee, which meets monthly. The system brings the Occupational Health and Safety culture to life, placing responsibility in the hands of the whole managerial line, as an indispensable condition for deploying.

TAQA MOROCCO’s goal is to achieve Excellence in Occupational Health and Safety, which implies reaching zero lost-time injuries, significantly reducing the number of anomalies and near-misses, and protecting people’s health.
To reach these goals, TAQA MOROCCO has made the following commitments:

Strengthening our organization in terms of Health and Safety Commitments: We will provide a structured framework at all levels of the organization, share our experiences, and grow our expertise on the subjects of health and safety.

. The documentation system will be reviewed and updated to define, frame, or support our health and safety practices.
. A new organization is being put in place to enable the identification and use of the health and safety requirements – regulatory or otherwise – applicable to our business.
. Proactive, quantifiable goals will be defined and reviewed annually on the basis of the results achieved.
. An Occupational Health and Safety program will be developed, to last for a minimum of three years, to enable us to reach stated goals.
. Our Health and Safety performance (objectives and plan) will be led, analyzed, and shared on a monthly basis.
. In particular, an annual review will be carried out to take stock of the past year’s performance and to review goals and action items for the coming year, with the goal of continuous improvement. Incidents deemed to be significant will be analyzed and the feedback shared.

Getting managers involved Commitments: We involve our managers at all levels of the organization so that they can be the main actors for the rollout of the health and safety policy.

. Managers shall demonstrate a Health and Safety leadership. In particular, managers shall carry out security checks, contribute to the rollout of Safety Messages, and participate in the analysis of significant accidents that occur within the scope of their business area.
. Managers shall integrate Health and Safety expectations into the core of their activity.
. The Health and Safety performance of managers will be evaluated on the basis of predefined business-area goals and individual goals.
. Well adapted training programs will be developed and offered to managers to enable them to effectively support the rollout of the policy within the scope of their business area.
. The management team will be part of the annual health and safety reviews.

Create a sense of responsibility among collaborators Commitments: We will cultivate a sense of responsibility in the teams so that health and safety are an essential component of professionalism, and so that everyone takes charge of their own safety and that of others.

. Individual goals relating to health and safety will be defined for each collaborator, according to their business area and their responsibilities.
. Training programs will be developed to support collaborators, from the time of their arrival and throughout their time at the company, in order to give them the means and skills they need to carry out their work in complete safety.
. A health and safety training program will be defined each year and its implementation will be the subject of regular monitoring.
. A system for escalating near-misses and dangerous situations (including suggestions for corrective or preventive actions) will be implemented to enable everyone to take charge of their own safety and that of others.
. Health and safety communication and awareness campaigns will be held regularly at the group level and locally.

Share our goals with service providers Commitments: We will share our goals with our subcontractors and suppliers to obtain their adherence to our culture and ensure their compliance with our commitments.

. Appropriate support will be given to our projects to ensure that our health and safety requirements are correctly taken into account and met by the providers involved.
. Our subcontractors and providers will be evaluated, chosen, hired, and monitored with health and safety criteria in mind.
. The safety of our facilities and equipment will be evaluated as far in advance as possible, in connection with our suppliers, so as to minimize the health and safety impact on people using them.

Improve the quality of life at work Commitments: We will develop and integrate an approach designed to improve the quality of life at work.

. Dangers to which collaborators may be exposed as part of their activities will be identified and the risks flowing from them will be evaluated, so as to define the necessary preventive actions to implement in order to protect their health and safety.
. The approach under which job roles may be adapted to better suit the collaborator’s state of health will be reinforced, both in the context of normal business activity and with respect to particular circumstances.
. Specific documentation on the theme of quality of life at work will be developed to support the implementation of defined preventive actions.
. All personnel will be involved with respect to Health and Safety Committee to share their views on the health and safety topics that concern them, and to make innovative improvement suggestions.
